About Donbas conflict

It was reported that forced passportization of population takes place in Donbas.

The OSCE SMM spotted 10 ceasefire violations in Donbas on August 26. 

Earlier, Russia sent 98th humanitarian convoy to Donbas, Ukraine’s foreign ministry protested against it.

It was reported that ceasefire in Donbas is holding for month. Zelensky considers Donbas ceasefire and restoration of Normandy format talks his achievement.

About coronavirus 

As of August 28, 114,497 cases of Covid-19 infection observed in Ukraine; while on August 27, the record morbidity was observed – 49 people died.

Amid the spread of the virus, Ukraine’s government made a decision to extend lockdown until October 31 and temporarily close borders for foreigners and individuals without citizenship until September 28.

Besides, MP, leader of the Batkivshchyna (Fatherland) party Yulia Tymoshenko is infected with the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Cambridge University intends to start clinical trials of its vaccine against coronavirus in autumn; Robert Koch Institute underlined that mostly, Covid-19 is transmitted from human to human through airborne droplets.

About situation in Belarus

The EU is going to adopt sanctions against Belarusian officials next week. Later, Ukraine stated it might joint the European sanctions. Ukraine also stated that it has frozen all contacts with official Minsk. Moreover, Lithuania included Lukashenko and 117 Belarusian officials in sanctions list.

In his turn, Lukashenko stated that he is ready to hold negotiations with the opposition but ‘not at the streets’ and with 'sane' people. He also stated that the diplomatic massacre at the highest level held against Belarus.  

Recently, 265 people, including about 50 journalists, were detained during the protest in Minsk. Members of the Presidium of the Coordination Council Olga Kovalkova and Sergei Dylevsky were detained; while famous Belarusian writer and member of Coordination Council Svetlana Alexievich was among those summoned for questioning by law enforcers, as the protests continue across the country.

Leader of Belarusian opposition Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with U.S. First Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun. She also announced the beginning of a peaceful revolution in Belarus. Tsikhanouskaya underlined that she sees herself as a symbol of change.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin stated that he had formed a reserve of security forces for Belarus. Russia also believes that Ukrainian scenario is going to be implemented in Belarus. However, Jens Stoltenberg urged Russia to withhold from intervening into Belarus’ internal affairs.

About Normandy Format

The Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak reported a new potential date of the meeting of advisers to the leaders of the Normandy Four. According to the official, it will take place by September 10.

The meeting was postponed due to the official trip of the adviser of the French President Emmanuel Bonn.

About Crimea

Six countries joined EU's decision to extend sanctions against Russia over Crimea's annexation.

At the same time, Ukraine’s ex-president Kravchuk names conditions for resumption of water supply to Crimea.

Representative Office of Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea stated that Ukraine should not decide on the possibility of resuming water supply to the peninsula. The president's representative in Crimea also added that the issue of restoring water supply to Crimea would be raised when Russia left the peninsula.

It was also reported that checkpoints with Crimea resume work from August 29.

Ukraine also sends note of protest to Russia after Putin's visit to occupied Crimea. Earlier, on August 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in the occupied Crimea to take part in the opening of automobile traffic on the illegally constructed section of Tavrida highway.

About Sports 

Viktor Postol will finally get an opportunity to fight for a world championship. The Ukrainian pugilist is about to face WBC/WBO junior welterweight champion Jose Ramirez on August 29.

It seems that Oleksandr Usyk and Dereck Chisora are about to square off inside the ring on October 31. The bout between them was initially scheduled for May 23, but the coronavirus pandemic forced the delay.

Mykola Matviienko will now join S.S.C. Napoli. Shakhtar Donetsk FC will receive 15 million euros and 10% of the player's resale.
