Donbas conflict

Ukrainian military took more casualties in Donbas this week; three servicemen were killed in action, and several more sustained injuries of various severity.

Since the ceasefire in Donbas took effect in July 2020, the Russian militants breached it more than 2,300 times. Oleksandr Pavlyuk, the Commander of Joint Forces claimed this during the meeting with Mark Etherington, Deputy Chairman of the OSCE SMM in Ukraine.

Ukraine does not have enough military force to reintegrate the occupied territories of Donbas and annexed Crimea. Kurt Volker, the former special representative of US Department of the State for Ukraine's affairs said so in an interview.

The UN urges the international donors to provide urgent financial help to satisfy the most basic needs of 1.9 million people in the Donbas Conflict zone. United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that on August 20.

Preparation for Independence Day

The preparation for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence Day continues. Thus, a rehearsal of a river parade took place in the capital. It was reported that the aviation of Ukraine's various service branches would fly over Kyiv during a military parade. Besides, the world's largest cargo plane will join the military parade on Ukraine's Independence Day. On August 20, the stand with Ukraine’s Independence Flag has opened near the Verkhovna Rada.

By the way, 80 percent of Ukrainians support their country's independence.

Crimean Platform

It was reported that Verkhovna Rada would hold extraordinary meeting dedicated to Crimean Platform on August 23. Location of Crimean Platform summit in Kyiv was revealed this week. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister also presented members of Crimean Platform.

The Supreme Court of Belarus recognized the Civil Self-Defense Units of Belarus a terrorist organization and banned its activities on the territory of the country.

In addition, Belarusian ex-consul in Lithuania was sentenced to ten years in prison.

Covid chronicles

The new Covid-19 wave has started in Ukraine. Meanwhile, the EU has officially recognized the Ukrainian Covid certificates in Diya app.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo will take place without an audience.

The scientists stated that antibodies to other types of coronaviruses can result in the asymptomatic Covid-19.


As evacuation from Afghanistan continues, Ukraine does not stay idle. The Defense Ministry sent an IL-76 transport plane to get the Ukrainian citizens out of the country where Taliban fighters just recently  seized power; Foreign Ministry specified that 120 Ukrainians asked for evacuation from Afghanistan. The mentioned plane had to stop in Oman, because the Talibs did not provide any guarantees of a safe corridor.

 Meanwhile, Defense Ministry said that Ukrainian peacekeepers returned from that country back in June 2021; thus, there are no Ukrainian servicemen there.
