About presidential elections in Ukraine

Ukraine is on the eve of the second round of presidential elections. Two candidates enter the round – Petro Poroshenko and Volodymyr Zelensky.

The whole country is watching the presidential saga. What happened this week?

Zelensky wants to hold debates at Olimpiyskiy on April 19, while Poroshenko proposed April 14 and April 19. Later, it was reported that the current President of Ukraine will wait for his opponent at Olimpiyskiy stadium on April 14, at 14:14 (Kyiv time).

It should be mentioned that such political debates will cost $220 000.

Another side of the story concerns blood tests for drug and alcohol use. Wladimir Klitschko, the Ukrainian boxer, called on the presidential candidates to once again pass the tests and hand them over to VADA experts. ZeTeam informed that Zelensky would not do that, while Poroshenko underwent tests again.

Another thing which struck Ukrainians this week – billboards with Poroshenko and Putin on the streets of the country.

April 12, a video with Zelensky appears on the Internet – a bus hits the presidential candidate.

'He's just fine because he's stoned', the line in the video says. It is a reference to Zelensky's recent evasive actions in terms of passing a drug test. Later, criminal proceedings were opened over spreading this video.

This week, Poroshenko and Zelensky had their first conversation on air of 1+1 TV channel. It was rather tense – ZeTeam explained that Zelensky got too emotional. 1+1 CEO stated he would sue Poorshenko for “breaking into the air of the private company” and for “previous accusations towards the TV channel”.

About Azov crisis

Another so-called court session in the trial of 24 Ukrainian sailors will be held in Moscow next week, Ukrainian ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova posted on Facebook.

The psychological and psychiatric judicial expertise against 20 captured Ukrainian sailors took place in Russia, where they are illegally held under trumped-up charges. Nikolai Polozov, the lawyer who protects their interests posted that on Facebook. 'The expertise against the remaining four will take place by the end of the next week', Polozov wrote. He admitted that the defense team protested, but the expertise still occurred.

The U.S., Canada and the EU condemned the inspection regime imposed by Russian in the Kerch Strait and navigation obstacles which appeared after the construction of the bridge, as it was announced at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) session on April 10, said the press office of Ukraine’s Embassy to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Ukrainian sailor Vasyl Soroka has been recovering slowly, even after the surgery on his wounded hand. The seaman's lawyer Serhiy Badamshyn reported that on Facebook.
