Escalation in Donbas

Deputy Head of the President's Office Ihor Zhovkva stated that Ukraine should expect new military escalation. As is known, Russia is building up a huge military force on the border with Ukraine, and it remains a mystery whether Putin merely plays his muscles or caries out a real plan of military invasion.

Combat activity in Donbas stepped up this week, too; Russian mercenaries opened fire from 122 mm artillery, which has not been used in this conflict for a long while. At least five Ukrainian servicemen lost their lives in combat this week. Besides, pro-Kremlin mercenaries continue shelling civilian quarters and jamming the OSCE drones.

The Foreign Ministry of Russia stated that Ukraine’s accession to NATO membership could lead to a large-scale aggression in Donbas. It also might become a threat to the Ukrainian nationhood, said Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman.

The United States have been looking into option to send the battleships to the Black Sea over the next few weeks, as tension between Ukraine and Russia grows.

OSCE confirmed the death of a five-year-old boy in Donetsk region; the child succumbed to the explosion trauma and fragmentary injuries. The tragedy took place last week, but the OSCE SMM released the report just now.


Ukraine reached the peak of the third Covid-19 wave. Kyiv enhanced quarantine until April 16, Lviv – until April 19. Besides, Ukraine is a leader in Europe in a number of new Covid-19 cases, as well as in a number of a death rate. However, Ukraine belongs to the list of countries with the slowest tempo of the vaccination of population against coronavirus.

It was reported that Ukraine will get 20 lung ventilators from the WHO. Besides, Ukraine will get 10 million Pfizer vaccines.

Meanwhile, the EMA found the link between the AstraZeneca vaccine and blood clots. U.S. factory shut down production of AstraZeneca vaccine. South Korea stopped vaccination with this drug. Spain will use AstraZeneca drug only for people at the age of over 60, as well as Italy.


Naked girls in Dubai

This week, it was reported that eleven naked Ukrainian women were detained in Dubai. Among the detained naked girls were eight Russian women. A group of girls who were photographed naked in Dubai were later deported from UAE. Dubai's Attorney-General Eissam Eissa Al Humaidan said that local authorities accused a group of foreign women of exhibiting, possessing and storing pornographic materials.

Moldova and Chaus

Moldovan President Maia Sandu charged the law enforcers to find Mykola Chaus, the kidnapped Ukrainian judge. "It is unacceptable that people get kidnapped in Moldova - no matter if they are citizens of the country or not, no matter whether their guilt in a crime is proven", Sandu posted on Facebook.

Chaus was kidnapped in Moldova on April 3.

The Ukrainian government denies any involvement in the act of kidnapping. The Ukrainian judge has been staying in Moldova since November 2016; he asked for political asylum but the Moldovan authorities rejected the appeal.


This week, vandals damaged a monument to perished Heroes-volunteers in the Luhansk region.

Besides, vandals dug under the concrete base of the complex in the Poltava region, as a result, the memorial stele fell. It was dedicated to Khan Kubrat.


Eurovision 2021: the list of songs of the second semi-final became known. Both real favorites and complete outsiders of the song contest will appear on the stage. 

Two Ukrainian artists - R’n’B singer MamaRika and rapper VovaZiLvova - released an unexpected song “Heart Knocks Knocks Knocks” and shot a music video for it. Ukrainian rapper Alyona Alyona and Ukrainian singer Jerry Heil presented each new album. And ONUKA band's music video for the song Zenit won the Around International Film Festival.
