About Donbas conflict

On April 21, Russian mercenaries landed two attacks on Ukrainian positions, using 120 mm mortars banned by Minsk agreements.

One Ukrainian serviceman was killed and three others were injured during the fight on April 20.

The Foreign Ministry of Russia returned to Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry two notes of protest, which concerned archaeological excavations in Crimea and report about the fight against coronavirus on the Crimean peninsula and in Donbas.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed confidence that the war in Donbas would end by the end of his term.

About coronavirus

Ukraine expects two peaks of coronavirus infection – one at the end of April, another one in the period of time between May 3 and May 8.  Besides, Ukraine’s Health Minister stated that religious holiday caused rise in Covid-19 incidence.

Moreover, the Ukrainian government extended the lockdown until May 11. However, the quarantine measures were mitigated.

As of April 24, there are 7,647 Covid-19 cases in Ukraine. 1,122 infection cases spotted in Kyiv. Besides, 51 employees of the Armed Forces of Ukraine infected with coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the UK has started trial of vaccine against Covid-19 on people. Israel also stated it will start the trial of the vaccine against coronavirus on people this summer.


About MH17

New details emerged about the evidence against four MH17 defendants - Ukrainian citizen Leonid Kharchenko and Russian citizens Oleg Pulatov, Sergey Dubinsky, and Igor Girkin. They are charged with complicity in shooting down the passenger plane.

As trial in the MH17 case carries on, the council chamber of the District Court of The Hague ruled that the judges in this case will have the right to consider anonymous testimony from 12 witnesses. AP wrote that in a story on April 23. According to the news agency, the Dutch judicial authority "made the ruling Thursday in an appeal lodged by lawyers for one of the suspects, Russian Oleg Pulatov, who along with the other three suspects hasn’t appeared for trial". The defendant claims he is innocent and hired a team of lawyers to help him while standing before trial.

About IMF

In the second quarter of 2020, Ukraine expects to get $2 billion tranche from the International Monetary Fund.

Besides, former Chairman of Odesa Regional State Administration Mikheil Saakashvili said that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had instructed him to negotiate with the International Monetary Fund.


About Chornobyl fire

On April 20, National Guard of Ukraine stopped the attempt of a new arson of the forest in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. 

Later, Ukraine’s Ambassador to EU said European Union was ready to support Ukraine in its fight against the fires in the Chornobyl zone.

It was also reported that the peatlands ignited not far from the site of disposal of radioactive waste in Chornobyl zone,and the severe smoke could be seen from the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Here is the view of Chornobyl zone after fire filmed from the drone.

As of April 24, fire continues in Chornobyl area, Zhytomyr region; almost 2,000 work to extinguish it.

About sports
