High-ranking official of Ukrainian Railways caught on receiving $70,000 bribe

The official is said to have promised help in employment for one of the key positions in the company

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Yuriy Lavreniuk informed that the Security Service of Ukraine detained Vakhtang Dzhakeli, Deputy Head of one  of the Ukrainian Railways departments, for receiving a $70,000 bribe, according to his post on Facebook.

“A few hours ago SBU detectives detained Vakhtang Dzhakeli, Deputy Head of one Ukrainian Railways departments, red-handed on receiving an unlawful benefit of $70,000 for solving the issue of employment on one of the key positions in the Ukrainian Railways.” Lavreniuk wrote.

According to him, the official was to receive $300,000 in total. Lavreniuk also noted that previously Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian insisted that Dzhakeli had to be fired.
