High Anti-Corruption Court extends house arrest of ex-judge Chaus

The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (HACCU) has extended the house arrest of ex-judge Mykola Chaus until February as Hraty reported.

"The HACCU extended the house arrest of the former judge of the Dniprovsky district court of Kyiv Mykola Chaus until February 3," the report says.

It is noted that the extension of Chaus's house arrest was requested by the SAP prosecutor Alina Zhovnytska, arguing that Chaus would hide from the court, and could put pressure on the court and witnesses.

In turn, Chaus's lawyer, Yuri Denisenko, applied for a change of preventive measure to a personal pledge. Chaus himself asked the court for at least overnight house arrest.

The panel of judges chaired by Yevhen Kruk refused to change the preventive measure for Chaus.

Earlier, it was reported that former judge Mykola Chaus kidnapped in Moldova was found only underpants in the village of Mazurivka, Vinnytsa region not far from the border with Moldova. When Chaus arrived in the police unit, he reported that he was abducted by unknowns.

According to the lawyer of the judge, he did not get in touch with Chaus as he was taken to Kyiv.

Later, the NABU made it clear that Chaus was detained. However, nobody contacted the detectives to pass them the suspect.

Later, mass media reported that Chaus was detained by employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and he was taken to Kyiv. The NABU also confirmed this information and published a video “chasing” the SBU car. The NABU stated that Chaus was in one of the cars.

On August 2, the lawyer of ex-judge Mykola Chaus stated that he prepares an appel on a change of investigative jurisdiction.

On August 3, the High Anti-Corruption Court holds the session on the consideration of the restrictive measure for ex-judge of Dniprovsky district court of Kyiv Mykola Chaus. Later, the lawyers of Mykola Chaus have used the right for judge rejection.

On August 4, the court has declined the appeal of the defense of Mykola Chaus on the judge rejection. Later, the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine chose a restrictive measure for ex-judge Mykola Chaus.
