Ukraine prepares to create the helicopter police. The first part of the French helicopters Airbus is scheduled to arrive before the end of 2018, as Segodnia agency reports with the reference to the adviser of the Internal Minister Ivan Varchenko.
572 million dollars will be spent on the helicopter police.
All the helicopters will arrive from France within two-three years.
“Now the Internal Ministry is creating a special unit that will head this helicopter service. Police, as well as board guards and rescuers, will use this service. For every kind of operation, there will be a certain type of helicopter. One type of them will be used for evacuation of people and other help in emergencies, other type – for patrolling the territory. Police will also use helicopters in special crime-fighting operations – to find and pursuit criminals,” Varchenko said.
The helicopters will be used to watch the situation at the border of Ukraine.
According to Varchenko, every helicopter will have an crew of 2-3 people. In total, there will be around 150-200 pilots in this service. They will be taught to assist patrol police, convoy units and preventive police from the air. Police officers with flight experience will be accepted as members of helicopter police.
As it was reported earlier, Verkhovna Rada, the parliament of Ukraine, adopted a Law “On the ratification of an agreement between the governments of Ukraine and France concerning the official support in the creation of a unified system of aviation security and protection in Ukraine."
On 25 May, Ukraine and France signed a treaty on the aviation security system that provides for the supply of 55 modern Airbus helicopters to Ukraine. The deal was signed by Arsen Avakov, the Interior Minister of Ukraine and Delphine Geny-Stephann, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Economy and Finance of France.
The signed agreement specifies helicopters of three types – H145, H125, and H225. All of which are supposed to replace the already existing helicopter fleet of the Soviet-made MI-8 aircraft.
