Heavy rains in Ukraine might lead to sugar deficit

Ukraine might face sugar deficit due to heavy rains, as the press office of Ukrsugar reported.

As the association of the sugar companies, first sprouts of sugar beet suffered from overwriting of the surface soils and high air humidity, which followed 100-150 mm of precipitation in Ukraine. Sugar crops beet was partially washed up.

Moreover, due to moister soils, sugar beet gets affected which influence its growth, development and level of sugar. Besides, it is impossible to carry out any agrochemical works as all the protection means will not have enough time to influence the pest.

Experts say that rain washes up nitrogen, that is why the growth and development of the plants worsens, young plants die in cold soil with high humidity because of lack of oxygen.

The representatives of Ukrsugar believe that the amount of the harvest will be less than expected. This might create sugar deficit on the Ukrainian markets, as this year there will be 1,101,2 million tons of sugar.
