The Health Ministry will not insist on the extension of the strict quarantine in Ukraine after January 25, as Interfax-Ukraine reported citing Chief Sanitary Doctor Viktor Lyashko.

“It will not do it now (the Health Ministry insisting on the extension of the strict quarantine). However, there are always some variables that cannot be considered in the predictions. Let’s talk about the UK that started the quarantine before our weekend quarantine. They planned to open the country on December 2 to celebrate New Year and Christmas holidays that started on December 25 without quarantine. However, they considered the possibility of another lockdown. According to the practice, they emerged from the quarantine without the reduction of the incidence as the mutation appeared and it transmits easier from person to person and it led to the infection outbreak. That is why the UK was forced to start even stricter quarantine in January,” Lyashko stated.

“We plan to emerge from the quarantine on January 25 and not to introduce strict quarantine in the future but proceed to the adaptive that will be applied at the places where local outbreaks are reported,” he added.

Earlier Health Minister Maksym Stepanov stood for an extension of strict lockdown in Ukraine after January 24.

The enhanced quarantine restrictions came into force in Ukraine on January 8 and they would act until January 24, 2021. The groceries, public transport, postal operators, drug stores, restaurants for take-away, banks, post, gas filling station (without food zone) and automobile repair shops will work during the lockdown. The employees of state facilities and utility facilities will work remotely. The leadership of non-governmental enterprises and organizations are recommended to transfer employees to remote work.
