Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Valeria Gontareva announced that she sees a "real professional but not politician" in this position if she resigns. She said this in an interview to Ukrinform.
"A real professional, banker, technocrat but no politician should work in this office. This is my vision, I have already offered several candidates as my successor. But the choice is for president, of course," Gontareva noted.
She also said that she fulfilled her mission fully as the Head of National Bank.
"I never said I would work in central bank all my life. I think that my mission is fully completed. Firstly, the country shifted to flexible exchange rate and started new monetary policy of inflation targeting. Secondly, we have cleared bank system from insolvent banks and enhanced its stability for future. We also did full transformation of National Bank in a powerful modern institution, rebuilding all processes," she said.
Gontareva added that after her resignation she will take time to relax and spend it with the family.
"I do not want to think about new work yet, we will see," she noted.
