On Dec. 28th, Mykhailo Halaiko, the head of Mykolaiv international airport, was arrested on the attempt to bribe Mykolaiv region governor Oleksiy Savchenko, as Taras Dunas, the regional prosecutor, told in a briefing today, as Nikvesti reports.
According to the prosecution, Halaiko offered $89,000 bribe to the governor and intended to hand over another $25,000 that same day.
At the moment, his actions are identified as bribery, which envisages 4 years of imprisonment and may result in seizure of his property if the court finds it justified. Halaiko is kept at a detention center for now. A preventive measure will be chosen for him in the nearest future.
Moreover, the Mykolaiv prosecution is to investigate how Halaiko obtained the money that he wanted to give as the bribe.
It is worth mentioning that Mykolaiv airport hasn’t been opened for passengers in a while. It is to renew its work at the end of this year or, more likely, at the beginning of 2018. Mykolaiv region governor, who was present at the briefing, said that the detention of the airport’s head would not influence the airport' reopening.
