Trial over five accused in Handziuk’s case starts in Dnipro region

Pokrovskyi district regional court of Dnipropetrovsk region has started the first hearing of the case on five accused in inflicting intentional grievous bodily harm that caused death to the famous social activist Kateryna Handziuk, as Unian reports.

According to the report, the head judge of the hearing is Olena Chorna. Five people are in the dock - Serhiy Torbina, Volodymyr Vasyanovych, Viktor Horbunov, Vyacheslav Vyshnevsky, Mykyta Hrabchuk, who are accused in inflicting intentional grievous bodily harm that caused death to Handziuk (article 27, article 28 and article 121 of the Criminal Code).

The prosecutors, the lawyers of the accused ones, Viktor Handziuk, the father of Kateryna Handziuk, and his representative take part in the hearing.  

Earlier, the Shevchenkivsky district court of Kyiv sentenced in absentia Olexiy Levin, the suspect of organization of the murder of the famous social activist Kateryna Handziuk.

On November 4, 2018, it became known that Kateryna Handziuk died at the age of 34. She was doused with sulphuric acid in July this year. According to preliminary information, her death was caused by blood clot's detachment. 

Besides, the doctors specified the cause of death; it was due to multiple organ failure and chemical burns.
