A year has passed since the attack at public activist and a.i. of executive officer of Kherson City Council Kateryna Handziuk. The names of those who ordered the attack have been not revealed officially.
In June 2019 the court and the prosecution claimed five people involved in Hadziuk’s murder: Sergiy Torbin, Mykyta Grabchuk, Viktor Horbunov, Vyacheslav Vyshnevsky, Volodymyr Vasyanovych.
- Sergiy Torbin (found guilty as organizer) was sentenced to 6,5 years of imprisonment;
- Mykyta Grabchuk (accused of committing the attack) sentenced to 6 years;
- Vyacheslav Vyshnevsky, Volodymyr Vasyanovych (found guilty as observers) – to four years;
- Viktor Gorbunov (accused of buying the acids) – to three years.
At the same time, the Prosecutor’s General Office suspended pre-trial investigation against suspects Vladyslav Manger and Oleksiy Levin.
Kateryna’s father claimed that Andriy Hordeev, Head of Kherson Region State Administration, and his Deputy Yevgen Ryshchuk from Bloc of Petro Poroshenko's were involved in the murder. Yet, Yuriy Lutsenko, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, said investigators did not have enough evidence of his involvement in the crime.
As it was reported, Viktor Handziuk claimed the necessity to carry out a closed meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the investigation of his daughter’s murder.
On November 4, 2018, it became known that Kateryna Handziuk died at the age of 34. She was doused with sulphuric acid in July last year. According to preliminary information, her death was caused by blood clot's detachment.
Besides, the doctors specified the cause of death; it was due to multiple organ failure and chemical burns.
