Director General of Gas TSO of Ukraine Serhiy Makogon advocates for NATO to ensure the transit of Russian gas through our country. He wrote this on his Facebook page.
Speaking at the meeting of the NATO Political Committee on Energy Security Serhiy Makogon stressed: “Ukraine has repeatedly experienced the use of gas as a hybrid geopolitical weapon. Today this phenomenon has become a pan-European problem, taking into account the current price situation in the gas markets and manipulations with supplies of blue fuel to the EU.”
According to him, the events in the energy sector is a threat not only to Ukraine but to all the countries of Europe. The issue of reliability of gas supplies is an integral part of transatlantic energy security. Therefore, several steps are proposed that should be jointly supported by all partners of Ukraine:
- no exceptions to the application of norms of the Third Energy Package for Nord Stream 2;
- guaranteed preservation of physical transit of gas through the territory of Ukraine in the amount of not less than 45 billion cubic meters per year;
- adherence to market principles of activity without artificial creation of "bottlenecks," unreasonable reservation of capacities and with transparent tariff formation.
Earlier, a few days ago Ukraine suspended the injection of natural gas into its underground storage facilities. As a result, the volume of gas in storage facilities has decreased by 0.01 million cubic meters in the past 24 hours alone.
The media note that the cessation of injection was influenced by the suspension of Russian Gazprom's transit of natural gas through Ukraine to Hungary from October 1, 2021, as gas imports from Hungary to Ukraine took place through a virtual reverse.
