“The United States and Germany are steadfast in their support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence, and chosen European path. We recommit ourselves today to push back against Russian aggression and malign activities in Ukraine and beyond. The United States pledges to support Germany’s and France’s efforts to bring peace to eastern Ukraine via the Normandy Format. Germany will intensify its efforts within the Normandy Format to facilitate the implementation of the Minsk agreements,” the message says.
This statement was made on the result of talks between Berlin and Washington toward the Nord Stream 2 and measures that would guarantee the energy security of Ukraine after the launch of the pipeline.
The document notes the possibility of sanctions against Russia, including restrictions for export of the energy source materials, in case if Moscow tries to use the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline as a weapon against Ukraine.
As we reported, Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor confirmed her country's stance on keeping the gas transit across Ukraine after the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is launched.
Earlier, it was reported that the U.S. and Germany are about to make a deal on Nord Stream 2, which can foresee sanctions and other measures against Russia if it tries to use energy as a weapon against Ukraine.
