“From our point of view, the role of Ukraine as a transit state is a necessity. We demand that. It’s in our interests, and it’s our demand that transit is possible in the future,” the message reads.
It was noted that Berlin supports trilateral talks on the continuation of transit between EU, Ukraine, and Russia. Germany is not going to speculate in case of “another scenario.”
According to Seibert, the topic of a gas pipeline which Germany considers as an economic, “political and geopolitical subtext,” will be raised at the meeting of Chancellor Angela Merkel and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday, June 18 in Berlin. This topic was raised during the meeting with his predecessor Petro Poroshenko, he noted.
The representative of Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy also noted that head of the establishment Peter Altmaier and Deputy Head of the European Commission revealed the statement on the results of their talks on this issue. She also noted that Altmaier demands that the transit should be preserved and reiterates this position at all the meetings with the Russian colleagues.
