Representative of Ukraine in the humanitarian subgroup of the TCG Iryna Gerashchenko officially confirmed that the detainee exchange will be held on Dec. 27, and Ukraine will exchange 306 militants for 74 Ukrainians, according to her Facebook.
“Officially. The Ukrainian side was ready for the release a few days ago, so the Security Service, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Minsk group did everything for this… On Dec. 27, 74 Ukrainians will be released, and we, as a part of releasing, well hand over 306 individuals, where the Ukrainian legislation permits,” she wrote.
She also noted that she had just discussed the exchange with President Poroshenko and he emphasized that Ukraine is ready and has done everything to unblock the process.
At the same time, Gerashchenko emphasized that not all Ukrainian captives will be able to go home under this exchange. She said Ukraine had plans and suggestions to be able to release all Ukrainians who are held captive in the occupied territories of Donbas in future.
