According to him, on 6 March, the General Prosecutor's Office sent a request to the Netherlands to provide international legal assistance for carrying out procedural and investigative actions with Saakashvili.
"Thus, this criminal proceeding was suspended on the basis of Article 280 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, in order to limit procedural terms of the pre-trial investigation until receiving results of international legal assistance," Lysenko explained.
He added that the pre-trial investigation of criminal case against Mikheil Saakashvili's associate Severion Dangadze continues.
As it was reported earlier supporters of the ex-president of Georgia and the former governor of the Odesa region came to the house of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko on February 24 and announced an indefinite picket. This time, the reason for the protest was not the events around their leader. People demanded the release of Saakashvili's associate Severion Dangadze.
The head of the Kyiv regional branch of the Saakashvili's political party Severion Dangadze was arrested last December on suspicion of high treason and cooperation with an organized criminal group.
In particular, the prosecutor's office believes that the protests organized by Saakashvili under the building of the Verkhovna Rada were financed by the comrades-in-arms of former president Viktor Yanukovych. These conclusions were made on the basis of the audio recordings of Dangadze's talks with Kurchenko's confidant.
