Pavlograd court found Nazarov guilty of committing crime (Part 3, Article 425 of Criminal Code of Ukraine — negligence of military service) and imposed punishment, sentencing him to 7 years of imprisonment.
Nazarov’s degradation was denied.
The victims’ claims were granted — Ministry of Defense in to pay $18.5 thousand to every one of them.
As it is known, militants shot down IL-76 plane in Luhansk on June 14, 2014 while it was coming in for a landing. 9 crew members and 40 military officers were killed as a result of the tragedy. Prosecution considered the actions a terrorist act.
On November 25 Pechersk district court arrested General Victor Nazarov on suspicion of involvement in aircraft’s downing and chose $13.5 thousand bail for him. Prosecutor’s office claims that general did not take SBU’s information regarding the threat of plane’s downing and allowed special operation to transport military unit in Luhansk airport. Nazarov himself denied the accusations. He was let out on bail subsequently.
