Gas prices in Ukraine increased by 23,5% today. Now, the price is $305 for a thousand cubic meters.
The Government made this decision on an extraordinary session on October 19. Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman noted that the households, which need support, will receive subsidies.
Groysman added that gas price increase is smaller than the IMF primarily demanded.
As it was reported earlier, Volodymyr Groysman claimed that the heating season in Ukraine officially starts on October 15, but the local authorities can decide on the beginning of heating supply to the houses taking into account the actual weather condition.
Earlier, in 2017 the capital’s authority decided to terminate cooperation with Kyivenergo, which was transferred to a new enterprise Kyivteploenergo. In April, the representatives of Kyivenergo stated that all the staff will switch over to Kyivteploenergo.
It was expected that the municipal enterprise will cover the receivables and payables of the company. However, on July 19, Kyiv Commercial Court refused to change Kyivenergo to Kyivteploenergo as a respondent concerning Kyivenergo’s debts.
In its turn, Naftogaz stopped gas supply in Kyiv due to Kyivenergo’s debts, which make almost $178,5 million. Due to these debts, Naftogaz refuses to sign the contract with Kyivteploenergo on gas supply with the result that hot water supply in Kyiv was cut off.
