Gas price increase for Ukrainians in 2016 is illegal, court rules

The sixth Administrative Court of Appeal rejected the appeal of the Cabinet of Ministers and confirmed the legitimacy of the decision of judges panel of Kyiv District Administrative Court and granted the lawsuit on gas prices for the population in May 2016 filed by Yuliya Tymoshenko against the Government, as the press office of Batkivshchyna party has reported.

“The second appeal institution admitted that tariffs were illegal, unreasonable and baseless. This means we were right when we were fighting against gas prices increase all these years,” Tymoshenko’s statement reads.

According to her, as the judges have proven that tariffs were raised illegally, and the Government’s order was in force for 2,5 years, the citizens have a right for compensation.

Tymoshenko added that the second-order of the Cabinet of Ministers is in force now. The order provides for an even higher gas price which is illegal and unreasonable.

As it was reported, Ukraine’s Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman stated that gas price for the population will not go up in autumn.
