Gas price for Ukrainian should not exceed $135-142, considering the need to mix the imported gas with the domestic one, as the Chairman of the Political Council of “Opposition Platform – For Life” Viktor Medvedchuk said after the meeting with Gazprom Head Alexey Miller in Saint Petersburg, where they discussed gas prices in Ukraine.
“There are two ways we can reduce gas prices for the population. The first one is what Yuriy Boyko was talking about, and it concerns the second round of negotiations with Gazprom, with Russia’s government. And the second path is what is needed today in terms of domestic gas production in Ukraine, which has to be mixed with import gas. And we are convinced that gas price for the population should not exceed 3800-4000 hryvnias ($135-142, - ed.) per a thousand cubic meters. This is a real price which brings income to Naftogaz, and all the formalities including gas transportation, normal profitability of Ukrgasdobuvannya is being set. Considering all these facts, this price can’t exceed $142. Here is our task, a principled task, it is justified, we don’t make these figures up, and our actions might make it happen after the elections,” Viktor Medvedchuk said.
At the same time, he added that “Opposition Platform – For Life” wants to set this record straight before ZeTeam.
“Because if they don’t so that, as Poroshenko, people have to know who wants to increase income level and welfare of our people, who wants to reduce gas price, which means reduce tariffs, who deals with belletristic in terms of cheap populism and tells that we should enhance anti-Russian sanctions, that there is no need to negotiate with Russia. Let those who think so and have such policy tell our citizens what they think about gas price for the population. We have expressed our point of view and we are ready to prove and make it really,” he concluded.
At a meeting, which Yuriy Boyko and Viktor Medvedchuk held in Moscow in March, the head of Gazprom, Alexey Miller said that Gazprom was ready to negotiate about a new contract for the supply of Russian gas directly to the Ukrainian market. In case of such an agreement, the price of gas for Ukraine may decrease by 25%. This was confirmed by Vladimir Putin.
The trip of Ukrainian politicians to Russia caused a negative reaction from the president of Ukraine, but the European Parliament supported the initiative. The General Prosecutor’s Office even opened a series of criminal proceedings. In addition, direct flights from Ukraine to Russia were forbidden.
