Prime Minister Denys Shmygal announced his government's plans to increase gas and coal production in Ukraine as the Cabinet of Ministers reported.

“We understand how we will move in the coming years, how we will increase Ukraine's energy independence. To date, a dozen agreements on the distribution of products have been signed for almost $10 billion in investments, which will ensure an increase in Ukrainian gas production by 5% or more annually. This, in turn, will ensure a decrease in gas prices for the population and the Ukrainian industry,” the prime minister said.

Moreover, according to Shmygal, the Cabinet is also working to increase coal production in Ukrainian mines and increase its imports in the winter. This will make it possible to arrange supplies of 2-2.3 million tons of coal monthly, if necessary, 1.7-1.9 million tons.

According to the Russian state concern Gazprom, gas reserves in Ukrainian UGS facilities have dropped almost to the level of the beginning of injection. As of mid-December, the volume of gas in the storage facilities was 15 billion cubic meters.
