First Counselor, French Charge d`Affairs in Ukraine Christophe Le Rigoleur thanked the Security Service of Ukraine (the SBU) for detaining two citizens of France involved in the commitment of especially grave economic crimes in the European Union. The press service of the SBU informs about the meeting between the French diplomat and SBU Head Vasyl Hrytsak.

"This is very important for us. I’m impressed with the fact that the SBU officers detained the criminals three days after having received our request. Close cooperation between the Ukrainian and French secret services became possible due to the high level of relations between two countries," said Christophe Le Rigoleur.

In his turn, Vasyl Hrytsak shared the details of the operation.

The next day, the SBU Main Counter-Intelligence Directorate officers established that on August 14 the criminal arrived in our country. The offender arrived to Ukraine with a passport of another country, registered under another surname. The SBU officers, possessing only a photo of a man, hiding from French justice in some European countries for over five years, established his whereabouts and on August 18, detained him with an accomplice, who was also on the international wanted list for having committed crimes in the European Union. At present, both French citizens are held under temporary arrest for a term of 40 days. The appropriate documents on extradition are expected.
