France and Germany have confirmed the readiness of their leaders – President Emmanuel Macron and Chancellor Angela Merkel – to hold the Normandy Format Summit on Donbas Conflict in Berlin as Interfax-Ukraine reported citing Minister for Reintegration of the Occupied Territories Oleksiy Reznikov.
“The holding of the summit depends on all four leaders of the Normandy Format. But we have the readiness of the partners. They confirmed it – the German and French sides that their leaders are ready for this meeting; they are ready to do it in the form of the direct bilateral talks with the Kremlin head to invite him to this summit in Berlin,” Reznikov underlined.
According to him, the issue on the Normandy Format meeting was raised not only in the German capital with the participation of Merkel but in Paris with the newly-formed government of Germany.
“After Merkel passes the position to the new chancellor, only one leader of the Normandy Format remains (Vladimir Putin, - 112.international), who remembers the meeting in 2014,” the minister added.
Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel noted the stagnation in the Normandy format and called for the resumption of meetings within its framework.
On September 26, the elections in Bundestag took place in Germany. Ukraine’s Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk has assured that the leaders of the election to the German Bundestag showed the readiness to support the current course of the foreign policy of Berlin after the elections.
