The European Union has not made a decision yet to exclude Ukraine from the "green" list of safe countries, but this may happen if the Covid situation in the country worsens as Speaker of the Foreign Ministry Oleh Nikolenko reported on Facebook.
"In case of increase in the incidence of coronavirus infection in Ukraine, the EU may adopt a recommendation to exclude our country from the list of countries whose citizens can make non-essential trips to the European Union," the statement says.
Meanwhile, Nikolenko noted that the EU's decision to exclude Ukraine from the "green" list does not cancel visa-free travel; it only introduces temporary restrictions on non-essential (tourist) travel to counter the spread of coronavirus.
He explained that in case of exclusion from this safe list, the EU does not automatically establish new border crossing rules, but only gives a recommendation to the EU member states. At the same time, the final decision on the permission or restriction of this or that type of travel for the citizens of Ukraine is made by each EU member state separately at the national level.
As we reported, 15,579 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Ukraine during the past 24 hours. Particularly, 538 people died.
