Five appeals filed against verdict in Yanukovych' case, - Ukrainian court

Five appeals were filed against the verdict for ex-President Viktor Yanukovych, as the press office of Kyiv Obolonsky Court, which jury considered his case on state treason, reported.

In particular, the lawyers of Yanukovych filed all the appeals. Yuriy Ryabovol asks to cancel the verdict and acquit the accused; Oleksandr Baydyk wants to change the verdict in terms of excluding some of referring to certain evidence and circumstances; Oleksandr Goroshynsky asks to repeal the sentence and close the criminal case; Bogdan Bilenko and Adriana Fozekosh support cancellation of the sentence and appointment of new court session in the trial court; Vitaliy Serdyuk and Igor Fedorenko ask the Court of Appeal to question 48 witnesses, to cancel the sentence, to close the criminal proceeding, to cancel seizure of property.

The amount of all the appeals make 478 pages.

Besides, the lawyer Baydyk asks the court to correct mistakes in the verdict.

“In particular, the lawyer asks Kyiv Obolonsky District Court to exclude reference to the circumstance which mitigates the punishment for Yanukovych: committing the crimes under the influence of dependence on the representatives of the Russian authorities. Besides, the lawyer asks the court to correct the sum of procedural costs from $3,500 to $2,090,” the press office of the court informed.

It was noted that soon the criminal proceeding will be passed to Kyiv Court of Appeal. The question of correcting possible mistakes will be solved after the court revises the sentence.

As we reported earlier, the Court of Appeal of the Cherkasy region transferred almost $55 million to the state budget within the framework of the special confiscation process.

According to the Prosecutor General, they will spend this money on new missiles, anti-tank guided missile launchers, armored vehicles, fire control systems.

As we reported earlier, Yury Ryabovol, the state lawyer of Viktor Yanukovych has filed the appeal against the sentence of Obolon District Court on the state treason case of the ex-president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych.

The court found Yanukovych guilty of addressing the Russian President Putin and asking him to deploy troops in Ukraine.

Besides, the court sentenced ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych to 13 years of the detention for the state treason and complicity in the holding of the aggressive war against Ukraine by the Russian Federation.

Yanukovych was charged with state treason, assistance in deliberate actions against Ukraine’s state border, sovereignty and territorial integrity and assistance in leading the aggressive war against Ukraine.
