The first posthumous transplantation of the liver took place in a private clinic in Ukraine. It was held within the pilot project of the Health Ministry as the ministry reported.

A 40-year-old woman became the donor.

According to the Ukrainian center of transplant coordination, as soon as the doctors provided the diagnosis – brain death, the relatives of the deceased provided permission for holding the transplantation of liver, heart, and kidneys. The United state information system on transplantation held the selection of the “donor-recipient” pair.

According to the Health Ministry, the transplantation of the heart was held at the Kyiv City Heart Center. The heart was received by the patient with a rare blood group. The kidneys were provided to the patients of the Kyiv center of nephrology and dialysis and Kyiv regional hospital.

As of today, the state of the recipients is stable.

As we reported, the Unified State Information System For Organ and Tissue Transplantation was officially launched in Ukraine.
