The first explosions in Kalynivka occurred inside the storage with the self-propelled mortars ‘Tyulpan’ and in the closed bunker with multiple rocket launchers ‘Uragan’. Director of Kyiv Research Institute of Foreign Expertise Olexandr Ruvin claimed this at the meeting of Committee of the Verkhovna Rada on National Security and Defense broadcasted by 112 Ukraine.https://112.ua/
‘We understand that the explosions occurred inside the storage. Two powerful explosions took place. One was at the open storage with the number of ‘Tyulpan’. The second was at the bunker with the number of Uragan’. There was no possibility to initiate the explosions outside of it, it was totally enclosed, it is made of concrete and there was a missile stations so the wideness of the concrete doors is one meter. Nothing could get there. Moreover, there was any equipped armament’, Ruvin noted.
He added that two causes of the fire at the armament depot are considered.
‘We examine all reasons. But we have two main causes. I think that the investigation will announce them in the near time. I have no right to do this’, the officer added.
Deputy Minister of Defense Igor Pavlovsky noted that information that the head of the depot in Kalynivka worked at the senior positions in Balakliya and Svatovo is not confirmed.
‘He was Chief Engineering officer in Ichnya and before that he was a commander of the division of the 55th artillery brigade’, Pavlovsky noted.
As it was reported earlier, fire at the ammunition storages in Kalynivka of Vinnytsia region began at 22:00 on September 26. Two women suffered in the result of the incident and were hospitalized. Almost 30 000 local citizens were evacuated from the dangerous area. They explosions ceased in the morning of September 28 and the rescuers finished clearing the territory from the explosives near the depot in the afternoon. The local citizens began to return in the evening of September 28.
The Chief Military Prosecutor’s Office of the Central region of Ukraine opened the criminal proceeding due to sabotage. The investigators enquire four versions of the fire in Kalynivka. The President of Ukraine decided to convene a military cabinet because of the fire at military depots in Kalynivka. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman claimed that the de-mining of the territories near the armament depot in Kalynivka region (Vinnytsia region) can last until the end of November.
