Fire in Luhansk region destroyed 10% of forestland; damage makes over $16.6 million

76 houses damaged; 35 houses destroyed in the result of the fire

10% of the total area of the forestland (5,000 hectares) destroyed due to the fire in the Luhansk region. The approximate amount of losses made over 450 million hryvnias ($16.6 million) as the Luhansk Regional State Administration reported.

The rescue detachments of Donetsk, Kharkiv, Poltava, and Dnipropetrovsk regions were involved in the extinguishing of the fire.

Meanwhile, Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Luhansk region Mykhailo Pshyk noted that the space imagery does not show hot spots in the territory of the fire for two days.

Moreover, Chairman of Novoaidar regional state administration Tatiana Novikova reported that 76 houses damaged due to the fire. However, any of them was insured. Besides, the residential houses and farm buildings of 41 households are damaged; 35 houses in Smolyanynovo village destroyed. 15 houses are damaged and 49 houses were completely destroyed in Vovche village.

The death of five people was confirmed and 34 people, including 15 children were hospitalized. 71 people appealed for medical aid to the hospital.

The liquidation of fire continues. The final sum of the damage is to be determined.

The large-scale fire occurred in the Luhansk region on July 7. Later, the fire spread to the residential houses; the evacuation took place.

As of the morning, July 8, the rescuers reported they found another three bodies during the elimination of fire; one person died in the intensive care unit.
