“On January 21, at 03:03 p.m., in Kharkiv, Nyzhnia Kyivska Street, the fire occurred at the second floor at a two-story building, preliminary reequipped as a retirement home,” the message said.
At 04:14 p.m. the fire was localized in the area of 100 square meters. The bodies of 15 deceased were found. Nine people are rescued and hospitalized.
Besides, Suspilne reported that Director of Regional Department of Social Protection Yuriy Shparaha stated that the facilities for old people are not registered at the address of the fire.
“No official facilities for old people are registered at this address. We do not understand why these people were gathered at one place,” Shparaha said.
He added that there is no such facility, private, state, or public, in the registers of Kharkiv region.
Later, the Emergency Service reported that the rescuers eliminated the fire at the home for elderly people.
“Kharkiv: fire liquidated at the two-story house,” the message said.
Prosecutor General of Ukraine Iryna Venedyktova reported the preliminary reason for the fire on Facebook.
“Preliminary reason for ignition is the misuse of electric heating elements. Kharkiv regional prosecutor’s office has started the criminal proceeding due to the violation of the demands of fire safety established by the legislation and that led to the death of people,” Venedyktova wrote.
According to the prosecutor general, the fire took place at the private care home for elderly people ‘Zoloty Chas’ (Gold Time). According to the recent data, 15 people died and 11 people suffered. The employees of the prosecutor’s office are working at the site.
As we reported, in Ukraine, in 2020, 1,132 people died in fires; another 1,021 have been injured. This year, more than 90,000 fires have occurred in the country.
