The National Police of Kyiv region opened the criminal proceeding due to deliberate destruction or damage to property by arson on the fire at the house of ex-head of Ukraine’s National Bank (NBU) Valeria Gontareva, as 112 Ukraine reported citing Spokesperson of Police Mykola Zhukovych.
“The police of Kyiv region opened the criminal proceeding due to deliberate destruction or damage to property by arson. And in this particular case, we work there, establish all circumstances,” Zhukovych noted.
The offense provides the deprivation of liberty from three up to ten years.
The law enforcers are looking for a man who jumped the fence of the house of Gontareva at 3 a.m.
“We try to find and track down the person who hopped over the fence of the house at 3 a.m. I would like to remind that until September, there were six security guards and one stays there now. This security guard, at least, said that he heard the rustling, some indistinct sound in the yard, came out of the house and saw a man and we see it at the CCTV cameras. Now, the criminal police, lab work at the site and we try to figure out all ways followed by this person and who got some benefits from it,” Zhukovych noted.
The house was used as the vacation home since May.
As we reported, the house of ex-head of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Valeria Gontareva in Horenychi village, Kyiv region was burned on the night of September 17 as a result of the arson.
According to the Emergency Service, no one suffered as a result of the arson.
On August 26, 2019, Valeria Gontareva was hit by a car in London. The woman said that law enforcers were investigating whether it was an accident or demands addressed to her has started to come true.
Gontareva is involved in the criminal proceeding opened on July 31, 2019, on abuse of official position by officials with a view to obtaining an unlawful benefit. The issue is about changing of monetary and foreign exchange policy registered in the regulatory framework of the National Bank of Ukraine on January 19, 2016.
The body of the preliminary investigation has objective grounds for Gontareva's questioning due to which the summons was sent to her on August 5. She had to be interrogated as the witness and came for questioning on August 12, 2019.
On August 15, the summons for Gontareva was sent once more; she had to come for the questioning on August 22. However, the ex-Head of the NBU ignored it without reporting a reason.
Valeria Gontareva headed the National Bank of Ukraine from June 2014 up to March 2018.
