The film ‘The trial: Russian state against Oleh Sentsov’ shot by Askold Kurov won audience award at the Verzio International Film Festival in Budapest as Crimea.Realii reported.

Masha Gavrylova, the producer of the movie accepted the award.

Earlier the film was nominated for the Silver Eye-2017 award as the best documentary of the Eastern and Central Europe.

‘The trial’ was released in Ukraine on April 6, 2017.

Verzio International, the documentary festival on human rights is annually held in Hungary since 2004. It aims to promote the open society, democratic values, supremacy of law and freedom of expression.

As is known, Ukrainian movie director Oleg Sentsov and Crimean activist Oleksandr Kolchenko were detained by the Russian FSB in the annexed Crimea. Both were taken to Russia. Sentsov was charged with preparing a terrorist act in Crimea and sentenced to 20 years in the high-security penal colony. Kolchenko was sentenced to ten-years-long imprisonment.
