Filaret supposes split in newly formed Orthodox Church of Ukraine

The Honorable Patriarch Filaret concedes a split in the newly formed Orthodox Church of Ukraine and states that he has the authority to convene a council, as TSN reports.

According to Filaret, since the creation of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, he talked with Metropolitan Epiphany not more than five times.

“Is this a communication? Because every day there is a need to manage the church. Therefore, there is no communication. And because there is no communication - and it should be -, the church is divided now. My job as a patriarch is to preserve the Ukrainian church,” he said.

However, he noted that both he and the head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, he can convene a council. Asked if he supposes the division of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the Honorable Patriarch Filaret stated: “I concede it, but we will create a single church.”

In addition, he stressed that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate was not liquidated.

“There is no need to return Kyiv Patriarchate back. It still exists. If there is a patriarch, then there is a patriarchate, the Patriarchate of Kyiv, so it is not necessary to return the patriarchate. And it will not be unrecognized. The time will come when it will be recognized,” Filaret said.

According to the Ministry of Culture, statements about the alleged restoration of the activities of such a religious association as the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate in Ukraine not true.

Earlier it became known, that there are misunderstandings between the Honorable Patriarch Filaret and Metropolitan Epiphany. In particular, Filaret seems to want to restore the structure of the liquidated UOC-KP and his influence on the church, while the circle of Metropolitan Epiphany is inclined to support the “Greek system” of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, proposed by Fanar.
