The workers of the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the US (FBI) stay at the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) at the rotary basis but do not participate in the investigations. Nazar Kholodnytsky, the Head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office reported this to TSN.
According to him, the workers of the FBI act in Ukraine on the basis of the memorandum of the mutual understanding.
‘Their help lies in the provision of the consultations, experience exchange, information exchange, speed-up and possibly some international orders. But the FBI workers do not investigate the cases that are not included in the list of the groups of the agents. The FBI workers do not run across Kyiv and do not catch people’, Kholodnytsky emphasized.
At the same time, he treats the undercover work of the agents with the possibility of the bugging as one of the most effective work to reach the goals in the fight against corruption.
As it was reported earlier the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine performed an illegal act when it asked for the FBI assistance while searching the State Migration Service office. Yuriy Lutsenko, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General said that in his interview.
Previously, Head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau Artem Sytnyk reported that the FBI helped them investigate the cases of corruption in the State Migration Service and illegal production of amber.
‘Artem Sytnyk said it was a joint operation of the NABU and the FBI. If that’s true, I have a question – who actually let the foreign special service act in Ukraine? As far as I know, the FBI agents arrived in Ukraine to help investigate the murder of Pavlo Sheremet. But without respective legal procedures, the whole operation is illegal,’ Lutsenko said.
