Farewell ceremony for Ukrainian filmmaker Muratova takes place in Odesa

On June 8, the farewell ceremony and cremation of Ukrainian filmmaker Kira Muratova took place at Tayurovske cemetery, Odesa took place as Interfax-Ukraine reported this citing its source.

It is noted that five-six close relatives of Muratova were present at the ceremony. According to filmmakers’ testament, no public events or a memorable evenings were held.

As we reported Kira Muratova, a Ukrainian filmmaker and actress, died yesterday at the age of 83. Kira Muratova lived and worked in Odesa. Films “Brief Encounters” (1967) and “Long Farewells” (1971) got her fame.

Her drama film “Asthenic Syndrome”, 1990, entered into the 40th Berlin International Film Festival where it won the Silver Bear - Special Jury Prize. An art-house grotesque and a sting comedy “The Tuner”, 2004, premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September 2004. Her latest masterpieces are “Melody for a Street-organ” (2009) and “Eternal Redemption: The Casting” (2012).

Kira Muratova was also a member of еhe Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, whose voting results in awarding Oscars.
