The expulsion of 13 Ukrainian diplomats from Russia will not affect Ukraine’s opportunity to protect its citizens abroad. Mariana Betsa, the Spokesperson of Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry, stated as EU Pravda reported.

”We have a sufficient amount of consulate officers. Therefore, fortunately, we can claim that the decision to expel the diplomats will not influence our chances to protect the interests of Ukraine’s citizens in Moscow and in the consular district,” she said.

She also stated that Russia demanded Ukrainian diplomats to leave the country in 48 hours, which is not common for the diplomatic practice and the current expulsion wave. The diplomats from other states had from 6 to 14 days to leave the country.

Betsa did not name the precise amount of Ukrainian diplomats in Russia. There are 29 surnames on the official website of the Foreign Ministry, yet some of the diplomats are not named due to their security.
