An explosion occurred on the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod gas pipeline in Poltava region, which is serviced by the "Operator of the Gas Transportation System of Ukraine" (Ukrtransgaz). This was reported by the Lubnygaz press service.
The explosion took place near the village of Kalaidyntsi at around 16:00.
Local residents were warned that an emergency gas shutdown is possible. Residents of the region are asked to close the burners in case there is a shutdown. The list of settlements that have already been disconnected or will be disconnected from the gas supply is being clarified.
According to preliminary information there are no victims or injured. 40 people were involved in extinguishing fire. Repair teams are working at the scene of the incident. There is no danger for residents of neighboring settlements. Gas transit is also not in danger. The causes of the accident are still unknown.
"Operator of the Ukrainian gas transportation system" is taking action in accordance with the plan for localization and elimination of emergencies and has already reported the incident to the National Police, the State Emergencies Service, the Security Service of Ukraine. An investigation will establish the likely causes of the emergency, including the possibility of sabotage," the message reads.
At the same time, ex-MP Igor Mosiychuk reported that the explosion took place near Lubny town; the message appeared on his Telegram channel.
