The man who wounded a police officer in the confrontation near the Solomiansky court on Feb. 15, turned out to be an ex-soldier of Donbas battalion who shot with an honorary weapon which he had received as an award from the Interior Ministry. Aide to the Interior Ministry of Ukraine Anton Herashchenko confirmed this information to 112.ua.
“It’s true. Yes, he was a former soldier of Donbas battalion. Yes, he had an honorary weapon, yes, he used it illegally and will bear responsibility. An honorary weapon is like a medal or an award to a person when one is deemed worthy. Accordingly, it has been confiscated from him. He will be prosecuted and will get a rather long prison sentence, I think, as he shot a police officer not having any grounds or rights for this, in my opinion,” Herashchenko said.
He also noted that the videos of the incident will be disclosed soon.
As we reported earlier, a shooting occurred at the entrance to Solomiansky Court where the hearing of the case of Odesa Mayor Hennady Trukhanov was taking place. People came to the court in what was an attempt to intimidate and influence the court, according to Trukhanov’s lawyer.
