Former MP Tetiana Chornovol refused to testify to the State Investigation Bureau (SIB), as the press-office of the department reported.

The SIB stated that Chornovol is suspected of the organization of the arson of the office, which led to the death of a person.

The materials of the criminal proceedings state that the events started in Kyiv from the arson of the office of the Party of Regions on February 18, 2014. Then Volodymyr Zakharov died.

In November 2017, Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko passed the case to the Special Investigation Department headed by Horbatyuk; however, the investigative actions were not held.

Lutsenko stated that he was personally present during the events tied with the arson of the Party of Regions’ office.

“It shows the illegality of the adoption of the procedural decisions by him in this proceeding as he is a witness and can testify about conflict of interests during making a decision on changing of the investigative jurisdiction in the criminal proceeding,” the message said.

The SIB opened the criminal proceeding against Chornovol on March 2, 2020. She is not suspected of the organization and participation in the mass protests.

On April 10, 2020, the SIB investigators searched the accommodation of the suspect. They confiscated items, which have evidential significance for investigation, items with signs of cold and firearms, cartridges.

Earlier, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine recommended abolishing the law on amnesty of activists for the investigation of crimes in Maidan in 2013-2014.
