Ex-judge Chaus left under house arrest

The Appeal Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine has left without changing the restrictive measure for ex-judge Mykola Chaus as UNIAN reported.

Besides, according to the message, at the beginning of the meeting, the defense of Chaus has announced recusal of the panel of judges but the recusal was not satisfied. After that, the court has started to decide the issue of broadcasting the meeting.

The defense of Chaus stated that the meeting should be held in a closed regime, the same as the court session of the first instance as it will disclose the location of Chaus and circumstances of his disappearance and return to Ukraine and it can harm the security of the client.

In his turn, Chaus supported the appeal of his defense.

“You understand if the judge is kept for four months in the basement and in mask and someone is interested how he delivered sentences if we announce it now for everyone, it will have very negative consequences. That is why I support the position of my lawyer,” Chaus said.

Earlier, it was reported that former judge Mykola Chaus kidnapped in Moldova was found only underpants in the village of Mazurivka, Vinnytsa region not far from the border with Moldova. When Chaus arrived in the police unit, he reported that he was abducted by unknowns.

According to the lawyer of the judge, he did not get in touch with Chaus as he was taken to Kyiv.

Later, the NABU made it clear that Chaus was detained. However, nobody contacted the detectives to pass them the suspect.

Later, mass media reported that Chaus was detained by employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and he was taken to Kyiv. The NABU also confirmed this information and published a video “chasing” the SBU car. The NABU stated that Chaus was in one of the cars.

On August 2, the lawyer of ex-judge Mykola Chaus stated that he prepares an appel on a change of investigative jurisdiction.

On August 3, the High Anti-Corruption Court holds the session on the consideration of the restrictive measure for ex-judge of Dniprovsky district court of Kyiv Mykola Chaus. Later, the lawyers of Mykola Chaus have used the right for judge rejection.

On August 4, the court has declined the appeal of the defense of Mykola Chaus on the judge rejection. Later, the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine chose a restrictive measure for ex-judge Mykola Chaus.
