The European Federation of Journalists will appeal to the EU Council in case of the political decision on the 112 Ukraine license and will argue such decision as Ricardo Gutierrez, the EFJ Secretary-General claimed.

The Federation has urged the Ukrainian leadership to put an end to the oppression of the freedom of speech in the country. The proper statement was made at the annual gathering of the international organization in Lisbon.

"We are concerned enough with the situation of the speech freedom in Ukraine. We held the annual meeting in Lisbon (Portugal). 70 delegations of the journalists from Europe voted for the fact that Ukraine moves on the freedom of speech of the journalists," Gutierrez claimed, noting that the threats come from the officials.

"It is dangerous enough when the officials tell this. It is a real problem. The European Federation of Journalists urged the leadership of Ukraine to put an end to it," he said.

Earlier 112 Ukraine TV Channel protested against the activity of Yuriy Artemenko, the head of the National TV and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine. The channel's management insists that the official has been conducting the Council's actions in the way that prevents 112 Ukraine TV from broadcasting; previously, he stated that the Council would not issue the license for this medium.

Gutierrez commented the situation: "As for me, this is an official statement of the National TV and Radio Broadcasting Council Head that it is ready to accept the political decision because if you can say this to the journalist before the official answer then it is an unfair, political decision."

He also added that the Federation expects the fair decision of the National TV and Radio Broadcasting Council.

"If it will not be so, we will argue it and put it on the online-platform of the EU Council to defend the journalist. I do not know the reason but I hope that the decision will be made in a fair and honest way."

Gutierrez is sure that 112 Ukraine has a right to possess the license as well as other media of Ukraine.

"This statement does not show the political will be honest and fair. We hope that everything will change and the decision will be positive. In another way, we will urgently respond to it," he promised.

We recall that the National Council refused 112 Ukraine TV Channel in the relocation of the broadcasting concept to the information one for 34 times. On the basis of the formal violation, it imposed the fines and preventions against 112 Ukraine TV Channel. The Ukrainian and international experts treat such actions of the regulator as the pressure on the TV channel and freedom of speech in the country.
