The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) responded critically to the elaboration of the bill on disinformation in Ukraine, as the EFJ reported.

“The EFJ strongly rejects any proposal where the state would regulate journalistic activity and impose any restriction on journalists,” EFJ General Secretary Ricardo Gutiérrez stated.

He urged the government of Ukraine to observe strictly the rights for the journalistic self-regulation and autonomy. He underlined that the state should create the conditions of this process, avoiding any state interference and not depriving journalists of their rights.

Earlier, the Ministry of Culture told about the bill that will regulate the media sphere in Ukraine: in particular, how they will fight fake news, what should be the format of news and responsibility for disinformation.

Later, Ukrainian Minister of Culture Volodymyr Borodyansky, commenting on the ministry's initiative to regulate the media sphere in Ukraine, assured that freedom of speech in Ukraine would not suffer.
