The European Commission states that the corruption continues to slow down the process of reforms in Ukraine and urges to reform the judiciary system as European Truth reported citing Valdis Dombrovskis, the Executive Vice President of the European Commission.
“Despite the notable progress, the widely spread corruption continues to slow down the process of reforms in Ukraine,” Dombrovskis said.
He noted that the key institutions should have strong and independent leadership and have a possibility to hold its work without political, economic or other interference.
Dombrovskis underlined that the recent events in the supremacy of law and fight against corruption show that the comprehensive reform of the judicial system is badly needed.
On December 10, the Venice Commission published the joint urgent conclusion on the legal situation in terms of mechanisms of combating corruption in Ukraine. The respective document was passed after the decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, which canceled criminal responsibility for doubtful declaring.
