The European Commission has allocated €50 million of grant funds for the support of the Ukrainian farmers as Deputy Director-General of European Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Katarína Mathernová stated at “Ukraine 30. Land” forum.
“We have allocated €50 million during two years in the form of grants for support of petty farmers, particularly, to finance the purchase of land. It goes hand in hand with the necessity to develop a proper mortgage system,” Mathernová said.
According to Mathernová, the EU supports Ukraine in the implementation of the land market. Besides, Katarína noted that it is time to make sure that all farmers are informed about the details of land reform and they got financial support.
As we reported, United States Chargé d'affaires ad interim to Ukraine Kristina Kvien stated that the U.S. supports the launch of the land market in Ukraine and it is ready to support Ukraine on its way of implementation of the reforms on liberalization of the agriculture land market.
However, Kvien underlined that first of all it is necessary to close the gaps in the land legislation. Besides, United States Chargé d'affaires ad interim to Ukraine Kristina Kvien has urged the Ukrainian authorities to adopt extra secondary legislation to enable anti-corruption guarantees of the land reform.
On May 24, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky publicly signed law No. 2194, which provides for the transfer of state-owned land outside settlements to communal ownership of village, settlement, and city councils.
