EU to decide on economic sanctions against Russia on December 21

The European Union should officially complete work on the extending sanctions against Russia on December 21. This was reported in Twitter by the journalist of Radio Liberty Rikard Jozwiak.

"The work on prolonging the EU's economic sanctions on Russia are underway. The process should be wrapped up on Thursday, 21 December," the journalist wrote.

As it was reported earlier the European Council has prolonged economic sanctions targeting specific sectors of the Russian economy until January 31, 2018. 

Also, the leaders of the EU countries have extended economic sanctions against Russia for another six months

European sanctions against Russia were introduced on July 31, 2014 in response to the annexation of the Ukrainian Crimea. Since then sanctions are continuing and periodically strengthening due to the aggression in Donbas.

German Chancellor said EU does not have enough grounds to cancel sanctions against Russia. According to her, there is not enough progress to discontinue the restriction measures, and the EU came to conclusion that 'one has to do everything possible for Minsk process to proceed,' Interfax quoted her as saying.
