The European Parliament adopted the resolution toward the Ukrainian political prisoners as the correspondent of 112 Ukraine reported.
“458 votes for the resolution by which the European Parliament appeals to Russia with the urge to immediately and without any commitment to release all Ukrainians who are illegally kept in the territory of the Russian Federation,” the correspondent said.
Oleg Sentsov is on the first place in the list. Besides, there are other activists, Crimean Tatars detained in the territory of annexed Crimea, 24 Ukrainian sailors, whose restrictive measures were recently extended in Moscow.
“The statements of the European lawmakers of the new convene of the new European Parliament were quite sharp; they condemned the Russian aggression in Kerch Strait also and they urged Russia to observe the decision of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, according to which they should immediately release the Ukrainian sailors and return the captured vessels,” the correspondent added.
Only 80 MPs were against the resolution. The majority of them did not vote for it as they believe it is necessary to hear both points of view and the Russian side. Those lawmakers who voted for reminded the anniversary of MH17 crash and summarized the results of the investigation.
As we reported Lefortovo Moscow Court extended arrest of all 24 Ukrainian POW sailors until the end of October.
Besides, Ukrainian movie director from Crimea Oleg Sentsov, Ukrinform correspondent Roman Sushchenko are kept in the Russian jail as well as many Crimean Tatars illegally detained in annexed Crimea.
