The European Parliament voted for the resolution on the release of Oleg Sentsov and other Ukrainian political prisoners as Rikard Jozwiak, the correspondent of Radio Liberty reported on Twitter.
“The European Parliament overwhelmingly passed a resolution calling for the immediate release of Sentsov,” he wrote.
455 MPs supported the resolution, while 106 were against.
The document of the parliament “expresses the solidarity with the Ukrainian filmmaker, political activist and political prisoner Oleg Sentsov who went on the hunger strike on May 14, 2018, demanding the release of the illegally detained compatriots and concern about the consequences of the hunger strike for the health of Oleg Sentsov.”
The MPs emphasize that the evidence upon which Sentsov was convicted were received in the result if the tortures.
Also, the conviction of Oleksandr Kolchenko for 10 years on this case also raised the concern of the EU Parliament. Volodymyr Balukh who went on the hunger strike on March 19 was also mentioned.
The EU MPs urged the authorities to provide all necessary aid to the prisoners and observe the medical ethics, including the refusal from the forcible feeding.
Other Ukrainian political prisoners detained in Russia, such as Mykola Karpyuk, Volodymyr Prysych, Oleksy Chorny and Yevhen Panov who were tortured and others were also mentioned.
The European Parliament condemned the violation of the international right at the territory of occupied Crimea by Russia, including the applying of the Russian law at the territory not recognized as Russia by the international community, militarization of the region and systematic violations of the human rights at the peninsula.
Ukrainian political prisoner Oleg Sentsov has announced a hunger strike on May 14. This way, he demands that all Ukrainians detained in Russia and annexed Crimea be released. Sentsov said he was ready to die if the requirements were not fulfilled.
The relatives of Sentsov note the deterioration of his health. According to the sister, he gets injections of glucose in the amount of one liter daily. Russian moviemaker Askold Kurov noted that the Ukrainian political prisoner feels good.
