The Council of the European Union approved a resolution on visa-free regime suspension mechanism for third countries on February 27, 2017. This was reported by the press service of the EU Council
“The liberalization of the visa regime brings great advantages to the European Union and third countries. At the same time, the EU must be able to respond effectively to incidents of non-compliance. Reviewing of the suspension mechanism approved today helps to fight abuse of the system,” Malta’s Minister for Home Affairs and National Security Carmelo Abela said.
The Council and the European Parliament now have to sign the rules adopted. The signed text will be published in the official journal of the European Union and will take force in 20 days.
Earlier it was reported that visa suspension mechanism will be approved in Brussels on March 1. Signing ceremony for Georgia visa liberalization will take place the same day.
